Upgrade your IG bio

Include these 10 key components in your Instagram bio:

In this blog post I am going over the key components that make an Instagram bio effective. A good bio can contribute to growing your audience and enhancing your online presence. Your Instagram bio is important because it is the first impression users get of your profile.

When was the last time you’ve updated your IG bio? 📱Is the information still accurate and does it represent you well? Let’s talk about the 10 key components your Instagram profile should include.:

 1.   Your Profile Name

Your profile name should be simple and memorable Instagram has been around since 2010,  and most people keep using the username that they signed up with many years ago. I do want you to ask yourself; is this name still relevant?

2.   Profile Photo 📸

I’ve coached hundreds of fitness professional and so many of them did not have a good head shot. A common mistake I see is: Full body pictures. It may be a favorite picture but nobody can see your face and you miss out on a personal connection. Also, don’t wear sunglasses, people connect with your eyes. No baby or pet pictures ( no matter how cute they are) and if you have a personal brand, don’t put your logo up as your profile photo. People would rather see who they are working with or buying from. Is it time to update your profile photo?

3. Bio Text ✍️

The Instagram bio character limit is 150 characters, that includes letters and emojis’. and in this very limited space you want to say who you are, what you do and for who this content is for. What problem are you solving, what value are you adding? And why should people hit the “follow” button? It should be concise and  engaging and reflect your style. It’s important to avoid fluffy language here. Fluffy language refers to words or phrases that sounds impressive or important but lack clear meaning or substance. Some examples of fluffy language:

  • Empowering others to unleash their inner potential.

  • Determined to create a positive impact and change the world.

  • Living life to the fullest, embracing every moment.

While these phrases may sound appealing they don’t provide any specific information.

The following examples are on point, these also include the target audience:

  • Science backed fitness & wellness advice for fitness enthusiasts.

  • Holistic wellness tips for busy professionals seeking balance.

  • Nutritionist & fitness coach for moms looking to prioritize health.

4. Achievements or Social Proof 🧑‍🎓

If you've been featured in the media, or if you have a specific degree or certification that is relevant to your audience, you can mention that in the bio text as well.  If you are using acronyms make sure that your audience knows what it means, otherwise you can leave it out.

5. Call-to-Action (CTA)

If you have a specific goal, such as driving traffic to a website, getting people signed up for your newsletter, downloading a freebie or scheduling a discovery call, include a clear CTA that people can read without clicking on the “more” button”.

6. Link

You're allowed one clickable link in your bio. Well, Instagram announced that they were going to roll out this feature for multiple links, but I don't think every account has received that feature yet. You can also use a service like linktr.ee . Lintr.ee provides one link that then directs your followers to multiple links. Just make sure that you don't provide too many options. Make it simple for people to find what they're looking for.

7. Contact Information 📧

How do you want to be contacted? Do you want to provide your email address, phone number or physical address if you are offering an in person service.

8. Hashtags and Keywords

Did you know that your Instagram bio is searchable? Yeah. The keywords, the texts that you include in your Instagram bio is used by the Instagram search algorithm to how users find profiles that match their interests. This means that if someone searches for a specific keywords or phrases that are present in your bio. There is a chance that your profile might appear in their search results.

 9. Emojis and Formatting

Yes, add emojis to your bio to clarify what you're saying and to show your personality. It will make your bio more fun and easier to read.

 10. Branding Elements

Use consistent branding sets as specific color scheme or tone of voice to maintain a cohesive presence. If your audience is going to visit your website will it feel like the same brand and person
